Asthma
This is a disease of the lungs characterized by attacks of
respiratory distress, shortness of breath, coughing and wheezing.
The signs of asthma are due to a constriction of the bronchi,
the tubes that transfer the air from the trachea to the inside
of the lungs.
Chronic asthma is primarily due to allergic reactions to
pollens and other airborne particles. It may also be due to
the inhalation of irritating substances such as perfumes,
household cleansers, air fresheners et cetera. Asthma is more
common in cats and horses than in dogs.
Conventional therapy for asthma involves the use of steroids
to suppress the immune reaction and bronchodilators to reduce
the construction of the bronchi.
Holistic treatment of asthma includes constitutional homeopathic
treatment to regulate the immune hyper reaction that is at
the root of asthma. Acupuncture
may be used to help reduce the intensity of attacks.
