Veterinarians
Our doctors and staff interact daily to provide high quality and complete patient care. Their respective areas of special
interest complement each other, and the resulting intra-hospital referrals and consultations benefit all of our clients.
Dr. George Collard, DVM, BSc (biochemistry)
special interests:
orthopedic surgery
ultrasonography
Dr. Collard ran a mixed animal practice (for large and
small animals) in Bracebridge, Ontario for 14 years before returning to the Atlantic coast with his wife Susan (also a veterinarian), and
their two children. He currently confines his practice to companion animals.
Dr. Collard sees health as the direct result of exercise, nutrition and preventive medicine. With the right attention, good quality health
is achieved. He appreciates the calming & uplifting presence that companion animals bring to daily life, and is glad to discuss any issue
concerning their health and welfare.
Dr. Fernando Moncayo, DVM, MSc (biology)
special interests:
holistic medicine
homeopathic veterinary medicine
veterinary acupuncture
nutritional therapies
Dr. Moncayo applies holistic principles to his practice, whether in the realm of conventional or alternative medicine.
Although skilled in
conventional veterinary medicine he is particularly interested in the treatment of chronically ill animals using a holistic approach.
Dr. Moncayo is a certified acupuncturist (IVAS) and a homeopath (AMHA), and also teaches and lectures on holistic medicine.
His approach to medicine is the result of a history of study, practice and research.
Raised among all sorts of animals on his family farm in the mountains of central Colombia, Dr. Moncayo has known since childhood that he
was going to be a veterinarian. In his youth he managed the family’s dairy herd and took care of sick animals. He was also inspired by his
grandmother, a cattlewoman and self-taught veterinarian. Dr. Moncayo attended the School of Veterinary Medicine at the
National University of Colombia,
and on coming to Canada in 1988, became licensed with
The Nova Scotia Veterinary Medical Association (NSVMA), and established his practice in treating both small and large animals.
Dr. Moncayo would like clients to know that the
team at Cobequid Animal Hospital does not throw in the towel on a case but is dedicated to finding solutions for the medical problems and
issues faced by your companion animals.
